I generally use KDE 4. Initially hated it when it came out, but once I figured
out how to bring the classic menu back, I got to like it. The plasmoids are
quite useful, and I like "yaquake" very much (there is guake for GNOME). Both
of these give a Quake style drop down console, very flash.
But what sets KDE apart for me, is the control panel. It's all there,
everything is configurable, and you can make your own colour schemes easily.
Something which you just can't do with the GUI in GNOME.
XFCE4 I run time to time, very good. LXDE is nice.
