Videogame preservation might feel like a B-class concern, but let s face it, vid
eogames these days are a cultural product with all the weight the fact packs.
Lots of oldies don t pick this up, but the fact is beating the crap out of each
other at Tekken brings people together more tighter than many other common cultu
ral phenomena, like say Literature.
I love myself some Francisco Quevedo and Miguel de Cervantes, but let s face it,
on a day to day basis, Dungeons and Dragons and Prince of Persia games are a mu
ch stronger force when it comes to bringing cohesion to social circles.
When somebody in my group of friends says "You know what, I would love to play s
ome Legend of Zelda from the NES, for the sake of old times" and another guy sho
ws up with that game, it is fucking magic. There is so much bounding you get fro
m pulling out a 20 year old PC game you have had in a box for decades and having
a shared experience playing it once again with people.
So yeah, you d better be mad if you lost a bunch of games.
