Yeah, I think that's weird too. I tend to not use subscription services much my
self either.

They tend to like having copy-protection. I think they have agreements of some
kind that they can enforce so that companies that release movies on physical med
ia will add copy protection to their media, as well as agreements with hardware
producers to support that copy protection.

I don't recall if I've seen any download links directly on YouTube, but in the p
ast, I've used 3rd-party software to download videos from YouTube and haven't ha
d a problem with those.
