I use Virtual Box, as well (for Linux, however). Just wanted to take a
minute to let you know that if you're using it, you may want to be really,
really careful about taking periodic backups of your virtual machines. I'm not
talking about the Virtual Box snapshots, either. I've been getting harped at
by professional developers that I know about switching to VMWare due to Virtual
Box eating virtual machines regularly. At first I didn't pay them any
attention, but eventually it happened to me. When my VM crashed, I tried
restoring to the most recent snapshot. I was unable to, so I contacted support
on the oracle forums regarding this. Turns out that the snapshots, in anything
but the most ideal conditions, are completely worthless. Making your own
backups of the VMs is imperative.
Anyway, just wanted to let you know, because if your VMs are anything like
mine, it's a pain in the ass to lose all of that configuration and
customization when things go down. I know that VMWare isn't free, but if
you've got any possible way, it's a lot better than Virtual Box. Web searches
on their kernel drivers (for linux) shows a whole lot of nerd rage about
absolutely terribly written kernel modules, as well, which can cause entire
system instability.
