The fun part is people is acting as if LEOs had ever been anything but enforcers
of the will of the government.
I don't think anything has really changed, and if anybody thinks it has gone for
the worse they should pick up and read police manuals from the 60s.
BTW police forces are not abstrabt entities, they are composed of individuals an
d obviously the interests of each individual matter more to them than any random
person. Which means it should not be surprising policemen are not catching a bu
llet for you anytime soon.
The incentives are there in the other direction, though. The police is less like
ly to issue a traffic ticket to a gypsy because the gypsy might call his cousins
and beat them up, but if you look like a normal citizen you are safe to pester
with tickets.
