Family ties suck big time. It is a real obstacle in many cases.
For example, I cannot leave my current province easily because there is nobody e
lse to take care of my horses*. If I were to leave I would have to find suitable
fields and rebuild my network of hay suppliers, then arrange for transport. It
is doable but not trivial.
Breaking family links sounds easy but may come back at you later to bit you in y
our ass. My grandpa left for tobacco in order to live in the other end of Spain,
now he is dying and arranging for family to take care of him is getting very co
mplex.
