A lot depends on the state.
Here in Michigan, you had to renew every few years, but you only needed your
picture taken like every 10 years, and you needed to go to the SoS office for
that.
But the newewal every few years didn't even send you a new license. They sent
you a sticker for the back of your current license that just said "valid until
20xx".
It's been a while since I had to renew mine. I really should check that out.
The last time my license was due to expire, they never sent me a renewal
notice.
... It's not worth it. I'm going back to bed.
