I've been a longtime fan of Gnome, but I don't like the tablet-style interface
they've moved toward in the past few years. It makes me want to try KDE,
although after trying Mint Linux, I like the Cinnamon desktop environment
(which is based on Gnome 2).
As far as a BitTorrent client, uTorrent is nice and is now available for Linux.
uTorrent has become my favorite client, at least on Windows.
