I'll vouch for KDE being a great DE. Some quirks still IMO but still my go to.
That said, if being windows-like is a turn off for you, you're opinion may not
change much. It goes beyond windows IMO, but it's still Windows-like. It's easy
enough to install though and give a shot. Who knows, you might like it in spite
of Windows.
