Heh. You're not being the least bit unfair or biased. It's definitely a mess.
Some people (gnome, Windows, and maybe more) went in a direction they "assumed"
would be popular in the future. Maybe on tablets and phones, but not on
desktops or laptops. My opinion, of course.
