I guess that is your choice if you never want to hook it up to the net in any wa
y. I'd see this as an approach to mess with LFS or Linux From Scratch
or gentoo.. or about any other distro really that gives you freedom of updates a
nd whilst keeping or using whichever version, or even your own code
for a package, while being able to be on the net if you wanted, say, retroachiev
ements.org or whatever.. I don't have random updates at all.. I have to
just run an emerge --sync ..then emerge -avuDN @world ..then it asks me at the e
nd if i want to do this.. i can make old packages remain as in --noreplace
or not. Can make that notebook into a server for your files to use on your own l
ocal network with a firewall that just processes 192.168.1.0/24 or
whatever your subnet is on.. I actually run a batocera machine in the kitchen fo
r now, have no help moving the crt tv that is heavy as hell and have no idea how
I had the strength to slap it in the back of my car. Messed up my arm a ton..
anyways. I can boot up pcsx2 or whatnot, or even anything that can run
those rom folders.. retroarch.. just mount the networked filesystem to an actual
directory in /mnt/network-roms perhaps.. if ya make the dir or another..
any comp in the house can use it.. not quite as easy as linux, but should do.. B
ut anyways no need for auto updating.. not even sure where you got that from, ca
use it's not needed in linux.. and if it does have auto updates, i'd check the c
