As to my experience (I moved SBBS from Windows to Linux), the worst headache I'v
e had was related to versions (3.18 to 3.19 or 3.20 if I remember correctly, I h
ad it running on older Windows machine).
I've installed the BBS on Linux machine from Git repo, then copied "ctrl", "data
", "text" and so on. After that I pasted contents of SBBS's directories. Then ca
me the fun part, cross-checking if every message base worked, resolving problems
, missing config lines and incompatibilities. But now it works, as I can see.
Sometimes I have to repair message bases, but I suspect it's a fault of systemct
l that might cause unclean shutdowns of SBBS or a bit rot of some kind. Backups
and SMButil help a lot. I haven't investigated it further yet.
