It's probably an unpopular opinion, but if you're going to go as far as using
gentoo, you may as well just get all the source yourself to compile. With
gentoo, you're getting the source packages from gentoo... why not just get it
from "the source" ? :). I like the idea behind gentoo, but it'd be better if it
grabbed source packages from the official distribution sites. Which I know
isn't really feasible with so many different packages, because you know at some
point it will break. It takes like two weeks to get a full system up and going
for me that way, but it really does run nice when you just build everything
yourself.
