Raymond L. Collins, ex- K7EQB/W6GLN, the president and co-founder of
Telewave[1] Inc, died on March 15. He was 83.
Collins co-founded Telewave in 1972 to supply custom-built filtering and power
monitoring devices for the broadcast industry, which were not widely available
at the time. Over his 44-year career at the helm of Telewave, Collins' gained a
reputation as a tireless worker, motivator, and innovator. He grew up in the
rural Yakima Valley of Washington, where he built and operated his own amateur
gear, including a kilowatt amplifier.
He worked for several local radio stations in the 1950s, among them KIMA-AM,
where he was the sales manager and also delivered commercials on the air. He
served in the Army and National Guard, helping to train combat pilots.
Following his military service, he worked for RCA and Motorola in the San
Francisco Bay Area for 20 years.
He was a fellow of the Radio Club of America. The family has suggested a
contribution in Raymond Collins' name to the Radio Club of America, or to a
favorite charity.
