Mr> for sound, nothing beats records.

The debate over sound quality of records has been beaten to death.. I
personally don't like the pops, crackles, and hissing you get from records.
Digital media, such as CD, SACD, and such doesn't have any of that and lasts a
lot longer. I've heard some people say that CDs don't sound as warm as
records, but my understanding is that (at least theoretically), according to
the NyQuist theorem, if the sampling rate is at least double the highest
frequency in the audio, a digital recording should be able to faithfully
reproduce the same sound that was recorded. So theoretically, a digital
recording should be able to capture the same quality of audio that a record
has.

Even so, I had given some thought to possibly buying one of these laser
turntables, which plays records using a laser instead of a needle so that the
record doesn't get worn out with physical contact:

I also imagine that it probably wouldn't have the pops & crackles you typically
get with a needle, at least with brand-new records. However, those laser
record players are a bit too expensive for me to want to buy one now.
